By default, the API returns 429 and lookups resume at the start of your next billing cycle. If you'd rather keep serving traffic, enable Spend Cap on /manage-plan: lookups past your included quota are billed at the per-1,000 rate on your card (£0.80 Starter, £0.40 Professional, £0.20 Scale) and added to your next invoice.
Spend Cap is a per-account toggle on /manage-plan. Off means a hard 429 at your monthly quota; on means the API keeps serving and you pay the published overage rate per 1,000 lookups. Switch either way at any time — changes take effect within 60 seconds.
